The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) seeks an energetic individual for the position of Lecturer (all ranks considered) to lead our new Devils Invent program. The Devils Invent program consists of a series of “hackathons” held throughout the academic year involving theme based intense problem solving experiences engaging all engineering majors. These hackathons will not be limited to software but will involve all types of engineering solutions.
This position will also be responsible for developing and instructing “maker classes” throughout the year targeted for engineering students.
The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the Devils Invent program, including identifying appropriate themes for the hackathons, identifying appropriate resources for the student participants, recruitment and selection of participants, working with community and industry partners to solicit mentors and funding and working with engineering staff to manage and assess the events. Additional instructional responsibilities will include developing and instructing “maker classes” based on student interest. Required qualifications include a Master’s degree in engineering or computer science and experience in mentoring project teams. Experience with organizing hackathons; leading maker classes and teaching experience at the undergraduate level are desired.
At ASU, we are in the process of transforming engineering education. As a part of this process we have created a team of engineering education specialists who will utilize best practices to develop and instruct innovative curriculum experiences that can be integrated into existing and new courses early in our engineering programs, and participate in our many academic success programs.
Appointments will be made at the rank of Principal Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Lecturer commensurate with the candidate’s experience and accomplishments, beginning June 1 2017.
