Senior Director, Operations Training, Department of Subways
MTA NYC Transit (NYCT) serves more than 5.7 million subway customers and 2.5 million bus customers on an average weekday. Its 48,000 employees provide mass transit and paratransit service throughout the five boroughs of New York City, including operating almost 6,400 subway cars at 469 stations, and more than 5,700 buses at more than 15,000 bus stops.
Operations Training is a unit within Department of Subways responsible for training its 26,000 employees. Operations Training provides approximately 350 individual courses focusing on: safety, induction of new hires and career professionals, and skill refreshers. Programs are developed in partnership with NYC Transit’s departmental management and where appropriate, other MTA agencies.
NYC Transit Department of Subways Operations Training is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join the team as Senior Director. The Senior Director is responsible for directing the design, development, delivery and evaluation of all aspects of training for an operational area within Operations Training. This includes but is not limited to overseeing the daily operations of Learning Centers, managing various levels of staff, evaluating instructor performance and effectiveness, creating pointed and robust assessment tools as well as determining enhancements to training curricula and improving current scheduling methods. The selected candidate will be expected to take a calculated approach in developing and implementing new strategies and program improvements, and to create solid business processes to meet the evolving training needs of Subways divisions. The ideal candidate must have a solid understanding of transit industry best practices and new developments in adult education.
The Senior Director will also be responsible for researching the use of current technology to deliver new and effective training initiatives, managing budget allocations efficiently and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. In addition, the incumbent will partner with business leaders to determine training needs, represent Operations Training on various task forces related to labor relations hearings, hiring committees, contract negotiations & examination panels.
This key role reports directly to the Chief Officer, Operations Training.
Education and Experience
A baccalaureate degree in Transportation Management, Computer Science, Organizational Management or a related field, and a minimum of ten (10) years of related experience, of which at least seven (7) years must have been in a managerial/supervisory/administrative capacity; or
A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience.

- Technical training experience as manager, supervisor or instructor
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- In-depth knowledge of various computer applications and techniques
- Strong knowledge of NYCT rules, regulations, policies and procedures
- Thorough knowledge of Subways and Operations Training policies and procedures
