The College of Engineering (https://www.ndsu.edu/coe/) offers 8 undergraduate engineering degrees and a management degree in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Construction Management and Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. In addition, MS and PhD degrees are offered in all engineering programs including a recently approved MS and PhD program in Biomedical Engineering. The engineering programs of the College of Engineering are ABET-accredited and the Construction Management program is ACCE-accredited. The college is home to 2290 undergraduate and 240 graduate students supported by 102 faculty and staff. Engineering alumni are employed regionally, nationally, and internationally at some of the world’s largest firms and industries. The College boasts research and academic strengths in multiple areas and has nationally- and internationally-recognized faculty in several prominent research areas of global importance. Research expenditures in the college have seen an increasing trend and faculty members have active funding from federal, state, and non-profit agencies as well as private industry. Significant research collaborations exist with the colleges of Science and Mathematics; Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources; Health Professions; and Business, as well as other institutions and agencies. Faculty of the college also support interdisciplinary programs in Biomedical Engineering, Environmental and Conservation Sciences, Natural Resources Management, and Materials and Nanotechnology. The College has made a significant commitment to STEM outreach as a Project Lead the Way Affiliate University, state and regional leadership for BEST Robotics, and events that involve local K-12 students. The College is housed in seven buildings covering 163,500 square feet of labs, offices and classrooms. A new, 67,000-squarefoot building is being planned adjacent to the current complex. In addition, the recently-opened A. Glenn Hill Center provides state-of-the-art classrooms with several spaces designed by faculty specifically to meet the needs of engineering courses.
The Dean is the chief executive officer of the College and reports to the Provost. The Dean provides effective leadership for the college's students, faculty and staff. As the leader of the College, the Dean guides the college towards academic excellence; promotes a culture of research, innovation and scholarship; and represents its students, faculty, and staff at the university level and beyond. As the chief academic officer of the College, the Dean appoints department heads/chairs, oversees accreditation, and leads new curricula and program development efforts. The Dean is the financial and administrative manager for the College, guides and oversees its annual operating budget, advocates to the central administration for investment in new programs and initiatives. The Dean is charged with all aspects of the College's external engagement, including fundraising, developing partnerships with other institutions and industries, and increasing the College’s national and international prominence in research, education, and service. The Dean also provides strategic leadership and management in meeting the University's land grant mission.
