Washington Mills is looking to hire a Manufacturing Manager for its silicon carbide furnace plant in Hennepin, IL. This is a fast paced manufacturing environment that moves hundreds of thousands of tons of raw material through the use of heavy mobile equipment, and transforms the materials into thousands of tons of finished silicon carbide used in advanced ceramic and abrasive applications. The manufacturing plant is a unique outdoor environment consisting of nearly 50 acres. The job will report directly to the current Plant Manager and work with all of the manufacturing departments in the plant. The plant operates 24/7/365 with production and control system demands changing daily. This position will analyze, plan, and schedule the demands of key components such as: the energy input of the high voltage and high amperage electrical system, the efficiency of PLC operating and environmental control systems, the raw material input, and the focus of various labor groups throughout the plant. This position will learn the interconnected workings of the plant as a whole, and requires the managerial and leadership skills necessary to coordinate, troubleshoot, and provide impactful insight to drive productivity. Planning daily and long term high voltage and high amperage electrical needs for the plant based on production schedules and environmental conditions
Evaluate uptime and capacity of gas collection and gas treatment systems
Learn operating permit requirements to track and measure compliance under existing IEPA water and air emissions systems operating permits
Evaluate raw material inventory, needs, and constraints and make recommendations to promote efficient production
Calculate the quantity of inputs needed for short and long term production planning for a dynamic manufacturing process.
Assess the uptime and capacity of major pieces of equipment (ie: mobile equipment, mix systems, furnaces, PLC systems, crushers, screening, packaging) and advise scheduling or resources based on maintenance schedules and product demand.
Define and document current processes, procedures, and specifications where needed
Distinguish manufacturing processes in need of improvement with aid from plant engineers
Anticipate the financial impact of purchases, repairs, and operational changes as they arise
Troubleshoot and perform Root Cause Analysis and corrective actions
Work with engineering and regulatory firms and agencies
Drive productivity improvement ideas and support continuous improvement initiatives
Bachelor Degree in Engineering with a strong preference towards electrical engineering
Experience working with, and/or on, heavy electrical and mechanical components
Minimum 10 years of experience in plant operations
Minimum 5 years of management experience
