As a member of our consultant team, this Transit Vehicle Electrical Engineer will provide engineering support for the procurement of new or overhauled transit vehicles and projects involving reliability improvement or product upgrades. You may also be involved with field efforts for incoming and departure inspections, assessment of vehicle conditions and will provide assistance with technical specification development. You may also provide project management support, primarily in a deputy project manager role, as work efforts are identified and responsibilities are delegated.
Various tasks, responsibilities and contributions:
Role will include systems engineering and project management support of procurements for both new and overhauled transit vehicles
Responsible for resolving design and system integration issues on transit vehicle projects
Engineer will support both office and field based activities, including technology assessments, writing technical specifications, evaluating vendors, performing design reviews, troubleshooting and problem resolution, testing support, and failure investigations
Track project status (including finances) and prepare periodic project progress reports
Support senior team members in preparation of cost estimates, development of work scopes for new project work, and other related efforts
Provide Engineering support in preparation of technical specifications for functional/ sub system/ testing/ maintenance & training requirements for vehicle or subsystem procurements or overhauls
Perform technical reviews of vehicle and subsystem design for transit fleets, analyze requirements, and prepare review comments for disposition of Contract Deliverables
Perform oversight and witnessing of factory testing of vehicles and subsystems prior to approval for shipment; log discrepancies and prepare reports for status of system testing
Monitor field implementation and testing activities for a range of transit vehicles
Support System integration of vehicle subsystems and complete vehicles from different suppliers for compatibility and functional performance
Assess performance and specification compliance for vehicles and subsystems
Have familiarity with vehicle and subsystems from key suppliers in the market in order to perform detailed design reviews of product and system submittals
Conduct direct client contact on project matters

BS Electrical Engineering
6-10 years total experience
5-7 years in system engineering and/or maintenance
1-3 years in project management with some leadership responsibilities / experience (e.g., lead engineering)
Basic knowledge of transit vehicle industry standards and practices
Demonstrates good communications skills, detail oriented and ability to work independently are essential
Demonstrates a strong capability with Microsoft Excel for use in generation of internal and client reports
Demonstrates experience with project planning, scheduling and progress reporting
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
Experience with vehicle fleet procurement programs
Experience with transit vehicles and vehicle electrical systems
Advanced technical or business degree (Masters)
PE, or willingness to pursue PE certification
