Our Construction Inspector jobs provide you with an opportunity to work on exciting and large-scale transportation (Marine Terminal) projects. As a member of our Construction Management team you will perform construction inspection duties in such a way that satisfactory relationships are maintained among all parties associated with the project. The responsibilities of this position will include providing Inspector support for the construction of wharfs, rail, semi-automated container stacks, paving, electrical and supporting infrastructure for the expansion of the Virginia International Gateway Marine Terminal, located in Portsmouth Virginia.
The job responsibilities will include:
â?¢ safety â?? observe and report on contractorâ??s ongoing daily safety program
â?¢ performing a broad cross-section of complex technical and administrative activities requiring extensive experience and specialization in Contract Compliance, Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) inspection of transportation projects and related construction work,
â?¢ identify and document construction and/or QC deficiencies (from applicable contract/standard specifications)
â?¢ analyzing applicable codes, standards and project contract documents and monitors construction activities to ensure compliance with contract documents
â?¢ interpreting or clarifying contract documents for Contractors based on CM input
â?¢ maintaining or preparing a variety of records, including daily/weekly progress reports, material accounting records, change orders and record drawings; reviewing new projects for constructability
â?¢ participating in the preparation of monthly progress payment quantities/requests
â?¢ coordinating, performing and/or evaluating tests and inspections, and other methods of verification as specified
â?¢ monitoring contractors' compliance with approved Quality Control Plan
â?¢ making recommendations for improvements to standard construction QC provisions as they apply in the field
â?¢ assuring compliance with approved submittals
â?¢ qualified candidates must have 10 years minimum experience with inspection or Apprentice/Journeyman experience in construction
â?¢ must also have experience documenting installation of work and contractor's performance and experience with applicable codes
â?¢ a valid State driver's license is required
â?¢ good communication (oral and written) skills required.
The minimum qualifications for this position are:â?¢ HS Diploma 10 years minimum experience with inspection or Apprentice/Journeyman experience in construction
â?¢ Specialized skill in one or more of the following areas:
o Jobsite Safety
o Civil Earthwork
o Civil Paving
o Rail Roads
o Crane Rails
o Pile Driving
o Structural Marine Concrete and Steel Work
o Landside Heavy Concrete Work
o Steel Structures
o Communications Low Voltage and Fiber
o Construction Lay Out
o Erosion and Sediment Control
â?¢ Experience in as many areas listed as possible: ACI Concrete Field Testing, pile driving, concrete and asphalt pavement placement, earthwork; cut and fill, earthwork compaction, rail construction, installation of high voltage electrical components, installation of communications conduits and fiber optics, installation of electrical panels, transformers and switchgear, installation of signage, soils and aggregate construction, pavement marking, equipment installation, terminal operations, Virginia Department of Environmental Quality Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector
â?¢ Experience documenting installation of work and contractor's performance.
â?¢ Experience with applicable codes
â?¢ A valid State driver's license is required
â?¢ Good communication (oral and written) skills required.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:â?¢ An AA degree related to Engineering or Construction Management Program
â?¢ Minimum 10 years of experience in construction inspection of waterfront marine and transportation related projects
