The City of Redding Department of Public Works is seeking a highly qualified and self-motivated individual for the position of Project Coordinator. Under direction, the Project Coordinator will perform professional engineering work, both in the office and in the field, including oversight and supervision of design, construction administration and inspection of capital projects, preparation of public works conditions for development projects, use permits, and subdivisions, engineering review of grading and improvement plans, coordination of traffic modeling efforts and reviews. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Design and prepare plans and specifications for capital improvement projects, such as streets, storm drains, sewers, water and sewer line extensions, pump stations, water treatment plants, parks and recreation facilities, and other civil/electrical related projects; administer construction projects, conduct field inspections of projects to ensure contract enforcement, prepare oral and/or written reports for staff and management as appropriate; review engineering plans and specifications of consultants to assure plans and specifications are in compliance with applicable standards; administer contracts and monitor the performance of consultants as assigned; select and review the work of surveyors and consultants under contract; prepare detailed specifications for the purchasing of material or major equipment; review comments, and pre-approve major equipment supplier data submitted prior to equipment order and manufacture; prepare and assist in the preparation of specific reports and studies for Council presentation and for other City-sponsored study groups; review project plans and specifications submitted by private engineers for compliance with City standards and other applicable standards and codes; function as a team leader for assigned projects. Organize, coordinate, supervise, train and evaluate assigned staff; coordinate departmental activities and interacts with other City departments and outside agencies; define City guidelines and standards for public works projects; respond to inquiries from the public both in person and over the telephone; coordinate development review and manage public works permit services, including grading and improvement plan check; prepare public works conditions for public works projects, use permits, and subdivisions; coordinate and develop traffic safety programs, traffic models, transportation and traffic studies, traffic signal priorities, special projects and planning studies; perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the job classification.

Knowledge of: Principles and practices of engineering as applied to public works; methods, materials and techniques used in the construction of public works projects; city engineering policies and procedures; the application of civil engineering to designs relating to streets, storm drains, sewers, pump stations, water treatment plants, and buildings; applicable laws and regulatory codes relevant to design and construction of public works and land development projects; traffic engineering; and effective supervisory principles and practices. Ability to: Interact effectively with the public and employees; perform complex civil engineering work involving responsibility for major public works projects from design through completion; make complex engineering computations; assist in the preparation of engineering plans and studies; communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; perform technical research and prepare detailed engineering studies and reports and provide reliable advice on engineering problems. Education & Experience: Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities are qualifying; typical education would include a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college, university, or equivalent, and typical experience would include five years relevant experience. |
