President & CEO

The American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois (ACEC-IL), a statewide association dedicated to the interests of consulting engineering firms, is seeking an experienced candidate for the position of President / CEO. This leadership position will work with an engaged Board and association committees, the staff of ACEC-IL, and directly with a membership of over 200 consulting engineering firms representing over 11,000 employees.

Responsibilities for the position will include:
• Advocate and promote with government agencies on behalf of engineering firms to communicate legislative and regulatory issues,
• Promote and retain membership recruitment,
• Accurately perform administrative and operational functions as necessary to include budget preparation and financial management, recordkeeping, reporting and legal compliance,
• Work closely with Board of Directors and committees,
• Manage association staff (two current employees) to ensure all activities support the objectives of the organization,
• Work closely with other state and federal associations,
• Oversee continuing education and public affairs programs, and,
• Work closely with the national association to include attendance at three national meetings each year.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
• Experience in legislative or government affairs and preferably association management
• Superior interpersonal skills to enable internal teamwork and external relationship-building with member firms, government officials, media, other interest groups and the public
• Financial management skills
• Strong leadership and communication skills with a high level of integrity
• An interest in working for an organization with an externally-focused mission,
• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree

To be successful, the position does also necessitate a person to travel throughout the state on a regular basis, and periodically, nationally to attend conventions and meetings. The role requires a presence in the state capital, Springfield, IL, where the office is located. Consideration will be given to accommodate residency outside of Springfield, IL.
