WHAT YOU WILL DO: Under general supervision, perform as lead worker, assigning work to Biomedical Engineering Technicians or work independently as an equipment specialist for repair and maintenance of electronic patient care/monitoring, clinical engineering equipment, including safety testing, design, installation, calibration, routine maintenance and repair of complex medical electronic equipment. WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL: - Associate's degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology or Electronics Technology, or a commensurate combination of education and experience, is required.
- Three years of technical experience, performing clinical or biomedical equipment installation, testing and repair of instrumentation, power supplies and electro/mechanical power transmission devices for all types of biomedical or radiological equipment, or equivalent, is required.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of Electronics or Biomedical Engineering Technology as applied to the calibration and repair of biomedical or radiologic equipment and instrumentation is required.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations, such as The Joint Commission, National Electrical Code and OSHA/MOSH, regarding operation and maintenance of such equipment.
- Knowledge of and ability to effectively use electronic and pneumatic measuring devices. Demonstrated ability to use digital volt meter, OHM and multimeter, oscilloscope, safety analyzer, DC power supply, soldering and de-soldering tools, and physiological vital signs simulator.
- Demonstrated ability to physically demonstrate for training purposes, and to perform calibration, repair and maintenance of biomedical or radiologic equipment using specialized test equipment is required.
- Familiarity with computer software packages, equipment inventory and testing/calibration software for quality assurance recordkeeping and statistical reporting purposes, and the ability to operate a personal computer system and to perform data entry of statistical information is required for Senior Biomedical Engineering Technicians assigned to the central Biomedical Engineering department.
- Familiarity with basic anatomy and physiology as applied to the use and operation of biomedical equipment.
- Ability to direct and monitor the performance of lower level Biomedical Engineering Technicians.
