The City of Batavia, IL is accepting applications for the position of Electric Project Engineer. This is professional electrical engineering and administrative work for the municipal electric utility, a division within the Department of Public Works. Work involves planning and designing a variety of projects in accordance with the codes and standards that apply to electric utility operations. Work is performed with independent, professional judgment. Position reports to the City Engineer / Engineering Manager and is reviewed as to meeting professional engineering standards and the timeliness of project development and installation of electric utility systems.
Assists with future planning, construction and maintenance of transmission, distribution and substations. Provides engineering design and/or consultant oversight. Performs specification writing and administers public bidding of projects. Provides oversight of projects during construction. Assists Manager of Electric Operations with on-site inspection of in-house construction and maintenance projects to make sure they are installed per specifications and comply with all applicable codes. Works to ensure the utility’s CAD, SCADA, GIS and asset management systems are updated and accurate; ensures compliance with applicable NERC Reliability First requirements. Assists in providing cost estimates for expansion of the system as a result of new residential, commercial and industrial developments. Works with contractors and customers in the design and installation of service changes and upgrades; obtains easements; coordinates work with field operations personnel. Performs review of engineering plans and specifications associated with new developments and work in the public right-of-ways
Must possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Graduation from an ABET accredited program is desired. Experience in electric utility transmission and distribution maintenance and construction activities is preferred. A combination of training and experience that provides the minimum required knowledge, ability, and skills will also be considered. Possession of a valid Illinois driver's license.
