A typical day involves direct interaction with community members resolving service requests, monitoring traffic signal operations, and providing reports related to performance measures. Since each day brings its own unique challenges, we are also looking for someone that can approach problem-solving with creativity and flexibility.
We are looking to find someone that is an excellent communicator because the candidate will find themselves having challenging conversations explaining traffic signal operations and listening to the public about traffic congestion and other related issues. Additional Position Information:
Under minimal supervision, the Traffic Systems Operations Specialist will operate and maintain the computerized traffic signal system; review and critique system software; install, configure and maintain devices related to traffic signal configurations, timing, and connecting to a centralized Traffic Management Center; develop signal timing and response plans with computer-based optimization. The Traffic Signal Operations Specialist works under the City Traffic Engineer for general direction and review of completed and in-progress work.
The City of Carlsbad contracts out the signal maintenance program so it is imperative that the Traffic Signal Operations Specialist will work closely with the contractor to support the traffic signal system.
