GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Under the general direction of the Deputy City Manager, the City Engineer performs complex supervisory, administrative and professional work in daily activities that reflect and support the development and implementation of infrastructure comprehensive plans, development activities and regulatory enforcement. Extensive interaction is required with the City Management team, City Council, and the public regarding the issues relating to the design and construction of public works projects, traffic systems, and environmental permitting and mapping. The individual must work closely with other City departments, agencies, and committees to develop partnerships and to explore additional funding sources.

The city is looking for an experienced leader who has a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field; has a minimum of three (3) years of work experience in an engineering capacity with a city, county, or regional office or firm which does considerable work for local government agencies; is registered as a State of Idaho Professional Engineer (P.E.); or is eligible for comity licensure by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers in accordance with Idaho Code, Title 54, Chapter 12. The candidate should have strong strategic planning and motivational skills as well as the ability to lead by example. Applicants with any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work will be considered. Knowledge of the following areas is required: civil engineering principles and practices; State of Idaho rules and regulations related to infrastructure and development; traffic systems; construction project management; and budget preparation. Candidates must be able to perform the following skills: train, assign, motivate, supervise and evaluate the work of others; make presentations before various departments, councils, and commissions and other groups; respond to citizen requests in a courteous manner; and make sound and reasonable decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations and established procedures. |
Additional Salary Information: Expected Starting Annual Salary: $104,000-$137,000
