Our new teammate is expected to be the technical and business development manager for our Traffic Engineering Discipline. You will take control of an established team and work to grow our staff and further develop our services. Objectives: - To support the Transportation Practice and those Markets requiring traffic engineering expertise.
- To distribute and balance workload across the discipline.
- To align technical staff reporting to enhance staff development and utilization.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities: - Develop traffic, safety, and conceptual engineering studies including traffic impact analysis, travel demand forecasting, traffic management plans, traffic signal timing, and micro-simulation models.
- Procure and deliver traffic engineering and transportation planning studies on time and within budget.
- Work with team members inside and outside the Discipline to execute projects and prepare technical deliverables to meet project requirements.
- Lead, build, and mentor junior and mid-level staff across multiple office locations.
- Provide input on Base Compensation, Incentive Compensation, Functional Titles and Classifications.
- Coordinate with Project Managers to forecast technical traffic engineering resource needs, control workflow/assignments, track/report utilization and resolve overload/underload conditions.
- Monitor the quality and progress of the Discipline on each project, ensuring that production requirements are satisfied. Work closely with Project Managers and Practice Lead to resolve any existing or forecasted problems related to discipline staffing, quality of work, schedule performance, or productivity.
- Manage an internal and external professional development program (including budget and cost control) to ensure on-going technical proficiency, hone business skills, comply with licensure requirements, and stay abreast of emerging technologies and practices.
- Provide input to the strategic planning process relative to current and future technical areas of competency, and emerging technologies and practices.
- Work with technical personnel to ensure Hanson’s position as a technical leader in the industry through presenting and authoring technical information (e.g. conferences, trade associations, publications, etc.).
- Maintain and establish client relationships
- Take a leading role in marketing, project pursuits, design, and production meetings.
- Actively participates in and promotes the Quality Assurance Program.
- Assist with business operations.

Qualifications Technical Skills: - Analyzing intersections and corridors using Highway Capacity Software, Synchro, and Vissim.
- Understanding of the Highway Safety Manual and Highway Capacity Manual.
- Familiarity with travel demand model methodology and Visum, Cube, and/or TransCAD
- Geometric design experience for intersections and interchanges is preferred.
- CAD experience with Microstation/Openroads and/or Autocad/Civil3D is preferred.
Soft Skills: - Building effective relationships with internal and external client bases.
- Communicating complex technical concepts to engineers, clients, and public stakeholders.
Education/Training: - Licensure as a professional engineer in civil engineering or related discipline.
- A minimum of 10 years of traffic engineering experience.
- Candidates with certification as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) are preferred.
- Supervisory experience, with a preference for candidates managing multiple people across multiple geographies.

- Must be willing to accept periodic out-of-town travel assignments
