The State Engineer for the North Dakota Department of Water Resources (DWR) under the direction of the Director oversees several regulatory functions and responsibilities, including oversight of dam safety, water appropriations, construction and drainage permits, along with other water permitting uses as outlined in chapter 61 of the NDCC.
