Provide technical support to customers and our commercial team prior and after sales for processing High Performance Polymers, with focus on injection molding and extrusion applications. Attend trials at customers as needed to support new applications and for troubleshooting when required. For fulfilling this task, the incumbent will be required to be fully familiar with HP’s product portfolio, including product properties and processing requirements.
Support root cause investigations and resolution of product and process performance problems at customers through pragmatic and scientific approach. This is often done with limited information provided by the customer yet requires immediate response and resolution, in person or virtually.
Create Processing Guides and technical data sheets for the new products developed, ensuring that all applicable safety requirements are addressed.
Collaborate within our global technology team and cross functional team including commercial, marketing and production to ensure alignment of the technical support activities.
Provide to global technology and commercial team a technical report of the customer issue & resolution approach and test report.
Feed-back advice for technology &/or product improvement based on customer feed-back.
Represent the company at various conferences giving technical presentations.
New Application Development:
Support Business Development team of High-Performance Polymers (HP) in identifying products within the existing product portfolio that meet customer application requirements and support introduction of such products all the way to the launch of such applications.
Suggest/support the development and/or modification of compound formulations when existing product portfolio does not meet customer application requirements.
Coordinate specific projects or other activities as requested by your supervisor and/or the Technical Director.
Responsible for staff development to meet the present and future needs of the organization (e.g. product training).
Comply with the company’s Environmental, Quality, and Safety policies.
Provide Technical Support to internal and external customers in efficient manner.
Embrace continuous learning by keeping in touch with polymer processing technology developments.
Proactively anticipate the needs of the customers for future tech support and application development activities, to avoid falling behind in being first to market.
BSc. MSc. or PhD degree in Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Chemistry, or a similar science degree, with an excellent technical base in polymer engineering.
3 - 5 years of industrial experience in technical support most preferably with engineering polymers.
Excellent understanding of polymer processing in general, with focus on injection molding (with hands on experience) and extrusion is required.
Excellent customer interaction experience is required
Good understanding of polymer additives, formulations, and testing is preferred.
Technical understanding of customer end-use application processes and material requirements (Automotive, Consumer Goods, Industrial & Energy, Aerospace) is a plus.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to analyze problems quickly and accurately with a passion to solve them.
Ability to properly assign priorities to a variety of competing tasks
Ability to work effectively in technical, business, and manufacturing situations.
Attention to safety.
Ability to travel up to 50% domestically
Willingness to keep learning and expand technical knowledge.
Knowledge of other polymer processing techniques (e.g., compression molding, roto-molding, compounding) is a plus.
Ability to speak German is a plus.
