STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Assists in managing and directing the Parking Department; assumes all duties of the Commissioner in the Commissioner's absence; does related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Thorough knowledge of principles and practices in the field of transportation engineering, including highway planning and traffic control methods; good knowledge of engineering principles; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions; ability to supervise the work of others; initiative and resourcefulness in developing highway plans and traffic control systems, using a sophisticated modern automated traffic system to solve both existing land-use issues and those arising from future growth within the City limits; ability to conduct and analyze traffic engineering studies and to draw logical conclusions therefrom; tact; integrity; good judgment; ability to perform in a reasonable manner the essential functions of the position.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Master’s Degree* in Traffic Engineering, Transportation Planning, or Engineering, and five (5) years traffic engineering experience; or
Bachelor’s Degree* in Traffic Engineering, Transportation Planning, or Engineering, and six (6) years of traffic engineering experience; and
Preferred Professional Traffic Operation Engineer (PTOE).
A satisfactory equivalent combination of training and experience, as defined by the limits of A) and B) above.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of or eligible for a license issued by the State of New York as a Professional Engineer. Possession of a license to operate a motor vehicle in NY State.
