The Montgomery County Engineer's Office (MCEO), located in Dayton, Ohio, is responsible for building, maintaining, and operating 311 miles of county roads, 523 bridges, 55 traffic signals and approximately 7,000 traffic control signs. MCEO is seeking an enthusiastic Senior Engineer to manage and lead the Traffic Department under the direction of the County Engineer. This position ensures compliance with applicable state and federal laws, standards, and guidelines. Specific job duties include the following:
Leads the traffic department and provides technical expertise in the planning, design, and maintenance of all traffic related infrastructure (traffic signals, roundabouts, signs, pavement markings, and pedestrian facilities)
Assists staff in the development and budgeting of the five-year capital improvement program
Leads the preparation and review of traffic studies to determine appropriate mitigation measures to resolve traffic safety and congestion issues
Manages consultants and provides traffic engineering reviews on construction plans, temporary traffic control (MOT) plans, and traffic studies. Coordinates activities with other neighboring agencies.
Leads traffic design activities and assists in the preparation of bid submittal documents for capital improvement projects (signals, roundabouts, signs, pavements markings, temporary traffic control plans)
Ability to mentor, direct activities, and supervise work of traffic department staff
Investigate public concerns/inquiries; meets with citizens to define and resolve issues
Directs the traffic count, speed studies, access permit, and traffic safety programs
Function as the ADA coordinator for County facilities located within the public right-of-way
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) curriculum
Ohio Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain within two years required
5 or more years of civil engineering design experience involving traffic engineering preferred. Consideration will be given to an excellent candidate with less than 5 years experience
Working knowledge of the MUTCD, traffic signal design, and traffic study preparation required
Familiarity with the Highway Capacity Manual and Synchro preferred
Familiarity with AutoCAD preferred, but not required
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Strong communication skills and experience relating to the public, peers, and support personnel
Valid State of Ohio Driver's License or ability to obtain within 6 months
