Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T), one of the nation’s foremost engineering education and research institutions, invites nominations and applications for the position of Department Chair of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering (EMSE) and the Bernard R. Sarchet Endowed Professorship. The professorship is coupled with the chair position and is named in honor of S&T’s founding chair of Engineering Management (https://emacademy.mst.edu/people/bernard-sarchet/).
Position Description
The EMSE Department seeks an exceptionally qualified leader with proven skills and experience commensurate with the academic management duties of a department chair. The candidate is required to have a strong publication record; demonstrated leadership skills; evidence of effective teaching and commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels; experience conducting and fostering interdisciplinary research/education; and experience leading and mentoring students, staff, and faculty.
Preferred Qualifications
Internationally recognized reputation in Engineering Management, Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related discipline
Extensive experience in program development and growth, in both curricula and research
Experience and knowledge in ABET/EAC accreditation of undergraduate programs
Willingness to travel for the benefit of the department, including alumni development and industry outreach
Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills and an ability to work in an interdisciplinary setting
Demonstrated excellence in mentoring and supporting faculty in their research and teaching activities
Successful record of budgetary and personnel management
Ability to represent the department in both academic and industry research settings
Demonstrated record of ethical performance
Demonstrated ability to set clear and consistent strategies and vision for future growth
Leadership and commitment to student learning success, including proven ideas to increase student enrollment and graduation success
Demonstrated commitment to fostering an environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion
Minimum Qualifications
An earned doctoral degree in Engineering Management or Systems Engineering or Industrial Engineering or in a related discipline from an accredited university
Academic credentials commensurate with appointment as a tenured full professor
