The Overland Park Traffic Services Division in the Public Works Department is hiring a seasoned traffic engineer (a Civil Engineer II or Senior).
The Traffic Services team includes one City Traffic Engineer, two Supervisory Civil Engineers, four Civil (traffic) Engineers, five Traffic Engineering Technicians, and four Transportation Project Inspectors. Our work includes:
Managing and reviewing consultant-designed projects for traffic signals, streetlights, signing, and other related traffic infrastructure
Preparing and reviewing in-house pavement marking plans for annual street resurfacing projects
Overseeing the construction of traffic infrastructure by contractors
Promoting and designing for active forms of transportation including walking, biking, rolling, and scooting
Analyzing traffic data (crash reports, speed studies, volume data) to remediate safety issues (yes, Toto, more roundabouts)
Responding to neighborhood traffic issues which may include traffic calming
Management and operations of a multi-million dollar traffic management center that includes a fiber network to 275 traffic signals and over 200 traffic cameras
Seeking outside funding to leverage city funds to their fullest potential

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related engineering field of study. Civil Engineer II or Senior requires Professional Engineer registration in the State of Kansas or registration in another state with State of Kansas registration required within one year of hiring.
