Metro-North Railroad is hiring a Vice President, Rolling Stock to lead and direct the Maintenance of Equipment (M of E) Department and Rolling Stock delivery and integration (RSDI). This key leadership role will work with the transportation, safety, and engineering departments to ensure a safe and reliable customer experience and make recommendations to improve service delivery. This position is also responsible for promoting and aligning the Maintenance of Equipment initiatives with the organization’s strategic goals, operational needs, regulatory requirements, and budgetary constraints.
Additional responsibilities for the Vice President – Rolling Stock, include, but are not limited to, the following:
Lead all Maintenance of Equipment activities, including shop operations, field operations, engineering and planning, maintenance, and repair of all locomotive and passenger car rolling stock.
Direct the planning, scheduling, and execution of maintenance, repair, and upgrade activities for all Metro-North-owned rolling stock, ensuring compliance with all federal regulations and industry standards.
Provide oversight on the development of long-range plans and projections for fleet maintenance, fleet composition, yard, and maintenance facility requirements.
Oversee the procurement process for new rolling stock and coordinate with the Mechanical, Transportation, Capital Projects, Legal, and Procurement departments to develop specifications, contract documents, and acquisition strategies.
Evaluate and offer recommendations on potential purchases of multi-level vehicles and emerging technologies as part of Metro-North Railroad’s Capital Program, including associated infrastructure investments.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Planning, Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 15 years of full-time progressively responsible management experience in a transportation operational function with a proven record as an operations manager of a large, multi-functional transportation organization.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in managing and developing a diverse group of professionals and non-professionals at various levels.
Ability and the desire to respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis, and be available for routine weekend coverage.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with a represented workforce and labor leaders.
Outstanding communication skills with a prominence on effective public speaking, the use of diplomacy and tact, resulting in positive employee relations within a political/unionized environment.
